Police are urging drivers and trick-or-treaters to keep safety at the forefront of their minds this Halloween.
The Ontario Provincial Police will be increasing patrols to ensure the safety of everyone taking part in the spooky fun on Thursday evening.
As well, authorities are encouraging trick-or-treaters to be visible by wearing bright, reflective clothing, using sidewalks and crosswalks when available, looking both ways before crossing the street, and having an adult inspect their candy before eating.
Motorists are also asked to drive slowly in residential areas, allow extra time for trick-or-treaters to cross the road, watch for children who may suddenly step onto the road, and avoid cell phone use while driving.
Anyone suspecting a motorist of impaired driving is urged to call 911.
