Provincial Police are expressing frustration with drivers going too fast for wintry conditions.

Freezing rain made for some slick roads this morning, causing a number of collisions, including one involving two transports on the eastbound 401 near Furnival Road.

OPP Constable Adam Crewdson says the cable median barrier prevented one of the rigs from crossing over into the westbound lanes, but drivers need to pay more attention.

“It could have been very very different out here. The roadways are slippery so I’m urging you to slow down. We had police cars out, flares out – there were cars going highway speed going past me in the fast lane. We’re not being smart out there, and this is another direct result of people going too fast [for the road conditions],” says Crewdson.

The eastbound 401 at Furnival Road was closed this morning, but has since re-opened according to the OPP West Region on Twitter.

In a separate incident this morning, one person was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after their car skidded off the highway near Dutton.
