Local school boards will be paying tribute to Indigenous children forced into the residential school system.
Orange Shirt Day will be recognized on Wednesday, September 30th locally and across the country.
Created in 2013, the day is designed to educate and promote awareness in Canada about the native residential school system and the impact it has had on Indigenous communities – an impact recognized as a cultural genocide, and an impact that continues today.
Officials say Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for the future.
Both the Lambton-Kent and St Clair Catholic school boards have activities and virtual events planned throughout the week to raise awareness and spark conversation.
