Outbreak Declared At CKHA Medicine Unit

Just days after one COVID-19 outbreak ended, another has been declared at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

Hospital officials said the outbreak was declared by CK Public Health on Tuesday in Medicine A Unit at CKHA’s Chatham site. The outbreak is currently linked to four cases of the virus that were acquired within the unit.

“CK Public Health will work closely with CKHA to manage the outbreak within the Medicine A Unit and will continue to work in consultation until the outbreak is declared over,” CKHA said in a news release.

No visitors/care partners will be permitted within the Medicine A Unit during the outbreak, the hospital said. However, exceptions may be permitted through the established visitor restrictions appeals process.

There are currently 19 patients with COVID-19 who have been admitted to the hospital, five of whom are being treated primarily for the virus. Two COVID patients are receiving critical care — one in the Intensive Care Unit and the other in the Progressive Care Unit.

A COVID-19 outbreak was recently ended in CKHA’s Medicine B Unit on February 28. That outbreak was first declared on February 11.
