COVID-19 has hit Chatham’s Outreach for Hunger with a double whammy.
The need is much higher this year with a lot of people using the food bank for the first time as their employment situation has changed.
At the same time, the pandemic has scuttled food drives and other collections this year.
Executive Director Brenda LeClair LeClair says that while The Gift, a recent community-wide donation drive, helped with some of the agency’s Christmas hampers, the overall need remains.
“We will be open right up until December 23rd, they can come in Wednesdays and Fridays and if they need more help in between they can call our office,” LeClair says. “We will make sure everyone has what they need before Christmas.”
She says they try and put together nutritious boxes high in protein, and are especially happy to receive things like oatmeal and juices.
