A local leadership program has helped to ensure more than 100 households in need were kept cool during the summer’s hottest days.

CK Cools, an initiative of the Leadership Chatham-Kent program, provided 125 low-income households in the municipality with air conditioning units.

NeighbourLink, Home Hardware on Grand Avenue, and Chatham-Kent Employment and Social Services all partnered for the CK Cools initiative to provide vital relief during extreme heat.

“With Chatham-Kent experiencing longer periods of extreme heat, the CK Cools initiative was created to provide important support for people to safely shelter at home,” said Steve Brown, CK’s director of budget and performance, in a news release. “This initiative will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our community for years to come.”

While demand exceeded available resources, organizers said the program will return in 2026. The municipality plans to notify community partners once the next CK Cools intake reopens.
