This year’s Law Enforcement Torch Run is being hailed a huge success.

The event, which typically brings in about $2000 a year, raised over $10,000 this past weekend.

Chatham-Kent Police Constable Jason Herder says they wanted to do more than just raise awareness this time around and hopefully bring in more funds with a chip timed run.

“Usually what happens is services across the province will do a torch run just to raise awareness what the LETR (Law Enforcement Torch Run) is all about,” Herder explains. “We thought in Chatham we would try to bring something a little different to the table to increase our fundraising and most importantly raise more awareness with our community partners.”

The annual fundraiser has been hosted in Chatham for more than 30 years by local law enforcers in support of Special Olympics Ontario.
