Today is world-wide Drug Overdose Awareness day and there are several events around the municipality to remember those we have lost, and to think of those still in daily battles.
August 31st is the day to acknowledge the many losses each year to overdose deaths. Especially this year with the numbers rising with the pain and isolation felt during this pandemic.
There will be several areas set up around to show your respects. Along with a live memorial set up on the Facebook page of the Chatham-Kent Drug Awareness Council.
There are also several physical sites set up for the day to visit. This includes memorials at the CMHA/CHC on Dufferin Ave in Wallaceburg, in Dresden at the CIBC band shell, the Baptist Church on Talbot Street in Blenheim, Thamesville’s Westover Treatment Centre, and the CMHA Centre in Chatham.
You are welcome to drop off flowers and mementos, and wear a purple ribbon to recognize those lost to addiction and overdose.
