No injuries have been reported following a fire at one of Chatham’s most popular restaurants.
Emergency crews responded to Mike’s Place on Queen Street shortly after 2 o’clock Tuesday morning to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.
Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control, but remained on scene for several hours to extinguish hot spots. Chatham-Kent Police Service, EMS, Entegrus, Enbridge, and Chatham-Kent Public Works were also on scene to assist.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
Damage is estimated at $1 million.
The restaurant’s owners posted on social media early Tuesday morning that Mike’s Place will remain closed until they are able to rebuild.
