The P.A.C.E. (Partnership, Achievement, Cultural Awareness, and Engagement) program was at risk of being cancelled at the end of the month because of a lack of financial support.

However, this morning the Lambton Kent District School Board announced it would be providing three months of bridge funding.

WDSS Principal Murray Hunt says the goal now is to find some long-term support for the program, which is not normally funded by the Board.

“It’s always been an issue with this program, the long-term sustainability of it,” Hunt says. “We’re just hoping we can get some funding so that it doesn’t have to be a month-to-month program, but can be here for years to come.”

The P.A.C.E program was started in 2007 to provide support for at-risk students who might otherwise fall through the cracks.

In the meantime, a group of concerned citizens has set up a GoFundMe account to try to keep the program afloat. Donations can be made here.
