A couple of Chatham residents are in hot water with police.

Shortly after 8:30 Thursday morning, a man and woman were spotted sleeping in a vehicle in the parking lot of a Grand Avenue East hotel.

Authorities say the woman was already under court orders not to associate with the man, remain inside her residence between specified hours, as well as conditions not to possess weapons, controlled substances, or paraphernalia. The man was also on numerous conditions including not to possess any weapons, controlled substances, or paraphernalia.

The man allegedly became confrontational with officers, but was taken into custody after a brief struggle and found to be carrying suspected cocaine and a box of ammunition.

The 38-year-old Chatham man was charged with possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, facilitating a breach, resisting arrest and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The 35-year-old Chatham woman was charged with seven counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Both were released with additional conditions and will have to appear in court in May.
