Local paramedics are upset at the lack of funding from Chatham-Kent council and are not going to take it anymore.
Chris Stolte, an executive board member with the Service Employees International Union, says they have launched a public information campaign to let people know the numbers.
He says after 9pm on the weekend, the city of Chatham has one ambulance in service.
And he says the blame lies with the municipality.
“The last council meeting, the fire chief presented to council that the fire department has nothing to do with the deployment strategy in Chatham-Kent, when in fact lat year the deployment plan was brought in to council by (former) Fire Chief Stuebing and (former Assistant Chief) Scott Ramey and actually approved by council,” Stolte explains. “They approved the response plan, but they also approved the time limits for ambulances to respond to high priority calls.”
Stolte says the lack of ambulances and reduced service is dangerous, and he’s hoping residents will get behind the idea and push council for more funding for their own safety.
