A Leamington man is facing nearly a dozen charges for drug and weapon offences following a police standoff in a Wallaceburg parking lot.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers on patrol attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on McNaughton Avenue at around 8:30 p.m. on Monday. However, the driver pulled into a parking lot and refused to exit the vehicle or provide identification.
After police negotiated with the man over the phone, he eventually surrendered and was arrested.
During search of the vehicle, officers found and seized a switchblade, methamphetamine, cocaine and a quantity of cash. It was also learned that the driver was under house arrest and was wanted by police in Essex, Windsor and London for a separate matter.
As a result, a 43-year-old Leamington man is now charged with flight from police, obstructing police, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of stolen property, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, three counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to a probation order, failing to comply with probation, and driving while suspended.
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
