A Chatham man has been charged, accused of driving past a stopped school bus.

An officer spotted the man on Raleigh Street in Chatham around quarter to four yesterday afternoon.

The bus was stopped with its lights activated when the car whipped past. The officer waited for students to get off the bus safely before catching up with the driver.

A 25-year-old man has now been charged with failing to stop for a bus and driving while under suspension.

Police remind all drivers that not only is passing a stopped school bus illegal, a conviction comes with a $490 ticket plus 6 demerit points on your license.
