This weekend’s 24 Hour Online Gaming Marathon for the local Path of Play project has raised more than $7,400 for the first ever inclusive Gaming Space project at LCCVI in Petrolia.
Marathon organizer and Path of Play founder Mike Primeau, originally from Wallaceburg, spent the full 24-hour period gaming with an online audience while raising funds for the event, totaling $7455.33, which is 62% of the overall goal.
“This was ALL community spirit, without question,” says Primeau. “The (viewers) made the 24 hours easy. We’re in great shape.”
Path of Play is a project which aims to create inclusive play spaces for families living with special needs and social isolation. Primeau and the organization are currently nearing the finish line of a $12,000 Gaming Space project for LCCVI in Petrolia, including an immense board game library, a Nintendo Switch console and a one-of-a-kind pinball machine.
The marathon event saw viewers and donations from across the globe, including Canada, the US, Mexico, Wales, Great Britian, India and Australia.
“We are simply overjoyed seeing so many wonderful people from all over the world supporting this project,” adds Primeau. “We are more than confident we will get across the finish line at some point. And this means that Petrolia will get this pinball machine and it will complete our vision for an inclusive gaming space.”
Mike was driven to create this organization and community due to his own experiences with his seven-year-old son, Luke, who is Autistic. Gaming was the connection Luke’s family had been looking for and has aided as therapy for the Primeau family and many others. It is their hope, that gaming spaces similar to what is happening in Petrolia will become commonplace across the province and more.
