Chatham-Kent’s hospital and a Walpole Island resident are celebrating a significant milestone in patient care.

Michele Day is marking 20 years of dialysis treatment at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, where she began her care journey in 2005.

“Michele’s long-term success underscores the impact of a comprehensive and well-managed approach to dialysis care,” said Jarrod Prieur, CKHA’s director of Medicine, Complex Continuing Care, Stroke, Rehabilitation Services and Chronic Disease, in a news release.

The hospital said Day has embraced a disciplined approach to her health and well-being by maintaining a specialized diet, incorporating traditional Indigenous food, as well as healing practices, into her daily routine.

“Our dialysis team is dedicated to supporting the holistic care needs of patients, understanding that this approach leads to improved patient outcomes,” said Prieur.

Health officials said Day’s hope and positive attitude serve as an inspiration to others facing health challenges.
