PAWR ‘Humbled’ By Community Support

Chatham-Kent’s animal control provider is thanking the community for its support after raising over $15,000 during its annual fundraiser.

Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR) ran its second annual Under One Roof campaign between October 1 and November 16.

“Our campaign came at a time when it was most needed — our shelter was full,” said PAWR Operations Manager Myriam Armstrong in a news release. “We are humbled by the overwhelming, but not surprising, support of our community.”

While PAWR has a contract with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent to provide animal control services and bylaw enforcement, officials with the shelter said those funds don’t cover their overall monthly costs.

“The monies raised through Under One Roof allow us to continue to provide the daily care requirements of all animals we care for and replenishes the emergency medical fund so that we don’t have to fundraise for each emergency case,” said Armstrong.

The funds raised will be used for meeting daily animal care needs and replenishing PAWR’s emergency medical fund.

On average, PAWR said it takes in around 3,000 animals each year.
