Peace Keepers Day

Today is Peace Keepers Day and there was a ceremony at the Wallaceburg Cenotaph this afternoon.

Former Peace Keeper Robert Simpson says organizing the ceremony is the least he can do:

“Having been a peace keeper, having been wounded peace keeping, it’s the least I can do to get my fellow veterans out, as well as the public. It’s a Canadian idea by Lester Pearson. It’s the least we can do for a very tough job. [Today] is a very important date. It’s the largest one-day loss of Canadian lives in peacekeeping.”

Veterans wore blue and grey, along with their medals. The ceremony included a laying of the wreath, a prayer and reflection, and the reason and history of peace keeping.
