Pellet Guns Near Elementary School Prompt Call To Police

Police are investigating after a reported gun sighting near a Chatham elementary school.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to Victor Lauriston Public School after an individual was seen with a firearm on Monday at around 12:12 p.m.

After arriving at the scene, officers located three individuals in a backyard adjacent to the school who were in possession of pellet guns.

“We understand the concern and alarm that incidents involving weapons can cause, especially in a school environment,” said CK police Public Information Officer Sgt. Lynette Rosina in a news release. “We want to assure the public that there is no concern for their safety.”

The pellet guns have since been turned over to police and the incident remains under investigation.
