Provincial Police have been cleared of any wrongdoing following an arrest in Petrolia.
According to the Ontario Special Investigations Unit, officers conducting a RIDE check on Petrolia Line on December 10th, 2022 spotted a vehicle making a U-turn. Police gave chase and learned a passenger in the vehicle was in breach of a court order.
Authorities say the 49-year-old was uncooperative and assaultive. One officer allegedly tackled the man, and another officer punched and kicked the accused before he was handcuffed.
The man was taken to Bluewater Health in Sarnia and diagnosed with a fractured orbital bone.
After reviewing the case, SIU Director Joseph Martino said there were no reasonable grounds to believe either officer committed a criminal offence in connection to the suspect’s arrest and injuries.
