A Petrolia resident is facing two dozen charges after a package was intercepted by the Canada Border Services Agency.

Authorities say the package destined for a Petrolia address was seized February 27th with seven prohibited weapons found inside.

Following further investigation, the CBSA’s Ontario Firearms Smuggling Enforcement Team (OFSET,) Border Enforcement Security Task Force, the OPP’s Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit, and Lambton County OPP’s Community Street Crimes Unit executed a search warrant on March 19th. Officers seized brass knuckles, two automatic opening knives, a brass knuckle knife, centrifugal opening knife with a thumb stud, conducted energy weapon, and three butterfly knives.

A 32-year-old Petrolia man has since been charged with 24 charges, including smuggling prohibited goods into Canada, and seven counts each of attempting to possess a prohibited weapon, importing a prohibited weapon knowing it’s unauthorized, and unauthorized importation of a prohibited weapon.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia this week.
