Petrolia School To Close Due To Potential Threat

A Petrolia secondary school will be closing its doors on Friday due to a possible threat.

The Lambton-Kent District School Board said Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational School will be closed to students for in-person learning after threatening graffiti was discovered at the school at the end of the day on Thursday.

“Student and staff safety are a top priority for the LKDSB and we follow the direction of local police regarding matters of school safety,” said Director of Education John Howitt.

The school board said the decision to close the school was made in consultation with the Ontario Provincial Police, to allow officers to investigate the possible threat.

“To ensure the safety of staff and students, the school will remain closed tomorrow,” the OPP said. “The investigation is continuing and residents should expect a police presence in the area.”

All classes will move to a virtual learning format on Friday, the school board said.
