During tonight’s online Chatham-Kent council meeting, council will get an update from the Chatham-Kent Physician Recruitment & Retention Task Force.
The task force received $100,000 in one-time funding from the municipality in 2019 and is hoping to get another $100,000 during Chatham-Kent’s 2021 budget deliberations.
The task force estimates that over 19,000 Chatham-Kent residents are without primary care, with 13 family physicians needed to provide comprehensive primary care.
Additionally, with an aging population and aging doctors in Chatham-Kent, there will be a need for more doctors in the future.
