Enbridge Gas has announced they will start construction on their pipeline expansion project.

Andrea Stass is the spokesperson and says work will begin soon.

“Enbridge Gas just got approval from the Energy Board to start construction later this month on our Chatham-Kent Rural Expansion Project,” Stass explains. “It’s a $19-million project and it’s intended to meet the growing demand for natural gas among our agricultural, commercial, and industrial markets in Chatham-Kent and area.”

The project will involve building:

  • A 13-kilometre, 8-inch pipeline taking off from Enbridge Gas’ existing Panhandle Natural Gas Transmission System at our Simpson Road Station (west of Tupperville), and proceeding south within the road allowance of Simpson Road to Base Line Road and then east within the road allowance of Base Line Road to the end point in the vicinity of the intersection of Base Line Road and Kent Bridge Road, east of Dresden (Base Line section).
  • A 500-metre, 12-inch diameter pipe near Dover Centre (Bear Line section)

The municipality is kicking in half a million dollars for the project that will help with the infrastructure and benefit both agricultural and urban businesses.

The company has a fairly aggressive timeline, with plans to have the pipeline in service by the end of the year.

Stass says any homeowners who want in can sign up on the Enbridge website.
