A local MPP’s efforts to scrap Ontario’s ban on pit bulls has cleared its first hurdle.
The private member’s bill, introduced by Chatham-Kent-Leamington PC backbencher Rick Nicholls, passed by a vote of 36-12, however it still needs to get through a final vote, which isn’t expected to happen until the spring.
Various animal advocate groups, including the Toronto Humane Society and the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association, have voiced their support of scrapping the ban.
