Chatham-Kent’s Natural Heritage Committee of the Whole will be meeting tonight and the group, made up of council members, is looking to the public for more feedback.

The committee’s end goal is to come up with a compromise in creating a tree cutting and woodlot preservation bylaw for Chatham-Kent.

To get there, the committee intends to have its April 11 meeting be a public session to gather more input on woodlot preservation options. Deputations would be submitted to the municipal clerk and read aloud during the virtual session.

Tonight’s committee meeting, following the regular council and planning agenda, will include options for further public consultation, including online submissions made through the municipality’s Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website.

Chatham-Kent council hasn’t met in-person in over two years, and while COVID restrictions are lifting, municipal officials say at this point no talks are planned to resume face-to-face meetings at the Civic Centre.
