As more COVID restrict ions lift and festivals and events return to Chatham-Kent, a perennial favourite in downtown Wallaceburg is in the works.
Organizers of the Sydenham Challenge Dragon Boat Festival say holding the event on the traditional first Saturday of June isn’t possible at this point, they’re hoping to get boats on the water sometime between July and September.
“With the constantly ever changing COVID rules, as well with the Sydenham Challenge being one of the first events of the year,” the committee says in an online statement. “It became difficult to proceed in several areas when not knowing a clear path forward.”
The annual event is typically seen as the unofficial start of summer, and draws thousands of people to Wallaceburg’s downtown.
The organizing committee and partners are in the midst of trying to coordinate schedules and will announce a date as soon as possible.
