It’s been years of conversation and planning, but an ambitious expansion of the Walpole Island Cultural Community Centre is coming together.
The plan is to add to the current building, potentially doubling the footprint of the nearly 40-year-old facility.
A new gymnasium, community rooms and more are all expected to make the final plan, but one thing that still needs to be decided is the potential inclusion of a pool.
The project is a partnership with the YMCA and has been in the works for the last five years.
The finished building would serve not only Walpole Island, but the surrounding community as well.
After the final plan is complete, it will be presented to the public, along with associated costing.
That’s expected to happen quickly, possibly as soon as March.
