Members Rotary Club of Chatham Sunrise display packets of sunflower seeds that will be sold to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.

The Rotary Club of Chatham Sunrise is hoping the local residents will utilize their green thumbs this spring to help the people of Ukraine.

For its latest fundraiser, Rotary Sunrise is selling 2,000 packets of sunflower seeds with the hope of raising $10,000 to support humanitarian needs in war-ravaged Ukraine.

“We thought that it would be very good if Chatham-Kent residents planted sunflowers in support of what we see happening in Ukraine,” said Rotary member Paul Roy. “This summer, I hope we see the results of our sales of 2,000 packets all over the countryside, all over the municipality of Chatham-Kent. And when people see this, they’ll remember we’re supporting Ukraine.”

The packets of sunflower seeds will be available at retail outlets across the municipality for a donation of $5.

Roy said Sunrise is also working with groups around Chatham-Kent to find locations to plant the sunflowers in the municipality.

Residents are being asked to plant the seeds in areas that can be seen by the community, especially by rural mailboxes.
