This Saturday, the communities of Wallaceburg and Walpole Island will come together to celebrate and pay tribute to one of our own.

Braelyn Blackbird is the inspiration behind December 8th’s Play 4 Brae events at the Wallaceburg Memorial Arena.

A full day of hockey, raffles and special features are planned, from 7:20 AM to 10:30 PM, with three special feature games at 12:50 PM, 2 PM and 8:50 PM.

Braelyn, from Walpole Island, passed away due to complications from Cystic Fibrosis in September.

Brae spent 412 consecutive days at the Ronald McDonald House in Toronto, plus numerous stays at the local Southwestern Ontario Ronald McDonald House. It was Braelyn’s wish to give back to a charity and the people that gave her and her family so much.

As part of the weekend’s event, the Peewee Laker Girls are collecting items off the Ronald McDonald House of SWO wish list as part of their Chevy Good Deeds Cup entry and will be spending the weekend as volunteers, helping at the arena.

This weekend’s event will support Cystic Fibrosis Canada and the Ronald McDonald House.
