A Raleigh Township man has been charged following a break-in and theft at a Chatham gas station.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to the gas station on St. Clair Street on Monday shortly before 4 a.m. after a security alarm was triggered.

Authorities reviewed surveillance footage at the scene which showed a man breaking the glass to gain entry. Once inside the man stole cigarettes.

A suspect was located a short distance away but he allegedly tried to run. Following a foot chase, the man was arrested.

The 24-year-old accused is now charged with break-and-enter and wearing a disguise with intent to commit a crime. He was later released with conditions and an August court date.
