A slew of charges have been laid against a Blenheim man after a police chase through Shrewsbury.

It all began just after 8 o’clock Tuesday night when an officer on patrol recognized a passing vehicle as not being insured.

The officer tried to pull the driver over, but the suspect sped off. When a second police officer joined the chase, the accused allegedly rammed the cruiser.

Authorities say the officer was able to keep control of his vehicle and used it to eventually bring the suspect vehicle to a stop.

But the action didn’t end there – when police approached, the man allegedly locked himself in and the officers had to break a window to get inside.

After a brief struggle, a 24-year-old man was taken into custody.

As it turns out, the man had been suspended from driving, didn’t have permission from the vehicle’s owner to use it, and was carrying a wide variety of drugs, including crystal meth, fentanyl, and cannabis.

Charges include theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, flight from police, assault with a weapon, resisting arrest, driving while under suspension, and two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
