Police Follow Alleged Impaired Driver Home

Driving recklessly has led to charges for a Chatham man.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers received a traffic complaint about a driver on St. Clair Street in Chatham who had been operating a pickup truck in an aggressive and reckless manner shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

The truck was seen striking curbs and failing to stop at several intersections, while also yelling at other motorists.

Officers went to the man’s house a short time later, where he refused a breath sample, refused to provide identification and attempted to shut the door on police. Believing the man was intoxicated, police took him into custody.

A 49-year-old Chatham man is now charged with impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit, obstructing a peace officer, dangerous operation, and obstructing a peace officer.

The accused will answer the charges in court later this month.
