Police are actively investigating after a magic mushroom dispensary opened its doors in downtown Chatham.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said it has been made aware of the store “Fun Guyz”, which recently opened a location at 101 King St. W.
“We are working with our policing and judicial partners during this investigation,” said Sergeant Jason Herder with the CK police Intelligence Unit.
Herder said police will not be commenting further on the investigation but added that the Chatham-Kent Police Service is committed to “enforcing current laws around illegal narcotics and will ensure that individuals who illegally possess or traffic in these substances are held criminally responsible.”
The chain of Fun Guyz stores sells psilocybin, commonly known as magic mushrooms, and has opened multiple retail locations across Ontario. However, the sale of products containing the hallucinogen psilocybin, a Schedule III substance, is currently illegal in Canada.
Several Fun Guyz locations have been raided by police in neighbouring communities such as London and Windsor, resulting in criminal charges and significant seizures.
