An arrest has been made following an overnight standoff in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent Police initially responded to a Pine Street address shortly after 7 o’clock Monday evening after receiving multiple 911 calls about an individual whose behaviour raised concerns for their well-being and the safety of others.
Investigators were able to identify the suspect, and say the 48-year-old was also wanted on an outstanding warrant in relation to separate criminal matter.
The man then barricaded himself inside the home.
Specialized police resources, including the Emergency Response Team, Drone Support Unit, Crisis Negotiators and Incident Command personnel, were deployed to ensure the safety of the individual, responding officers, and members of the public.
After lengthy negotiations and judicial authorization, members of the Emergency Response Team gained entry to the home and the accused was taken into custody without further incident at 12:30 Tuesday morning.
The man has since been charged with mischief under $5000 and is set to appear in court at a later date.
Authorities say there is no ongoing risk to the public.
