Police Looking For Suspects After Unprovoked Attacks in Downtown Chatham

Police are looking for the public’s help as they investigate what authorities describe as a series of unprovoked and cowardly acts.

Between August 9th and August 22nd, five incidents were reported to police involving a group of young people approaching lone individuals in downtown Chatham, escalating from harassments and threats to robbery.

Authorities say the accused are recording the events and some reports to police suggest there may have been others watching from the sidelines.

Anyone who has been a victim of a similar event and has not reported it to police is encouraged to call the Chatham-Kent Police non-emergency line at 519-352-1234.

The following are the dates, approximate time frames and locations for the reported events:

  • August 9 – 12:50 am -1:05 am 99 King Street West (DCC mall parking lot)
  • August 11 – 9:45 pm – 9:55 pm King Street at Fifth Street
  • August 22 3:50am – 4:05am Third Street at Grand Avenue West (7-11 Parking lot); 4:00am – 4:10am Tecumseh Park; and 4:10am – 4:30am King Street W at Fifth Street
