Police Officer Saves Life Of Two-Week-Old Baby

The Chatham-Kent Police Service is recognizing one of its own for helping to save the life of a two-week-old infant.

According to police officials, officers received a 911 call about an infant experiencing a medical emergency on Tuesday at around 3:30 p.m.  Authorities have not released where in the municipality the emergency took place.

Sergeant Fraser Leontowicz arrived within two minutes of the call and found the baby unresponsive. He administered first aid and CPR, helping the infant regain consciousness.

EMS arrived shortly after and continued to provide medical care before taking the baby to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for further treatment.

The child is expected to make a full recovery.

“What began as a frightening and emotional situation ended positively thanks to the quick action, training and dedication of this officer,” police officials said in a news release. “This swift response also highlights the strong teamwork between police officers, paramedics and emergency services in our community.”
