Police Pursue Stolen Vehicle In Wallaceburg

Two people are facing charges following a high-speed police chase through the streets of Wallaceburg.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said an officer spotted a vehicle on Albert Street shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Monday, which had been reported stolen in Middlesex County on July 14.

When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, it took off at a high rate of speed and attempted to evade police by turning down different streets multiple times.

When the vehicle attempted to pass over a railway crossing on Cemetery Road at a high speed, the railway caused damage to the vehicle and it was immobilized.

Officers arrested a man and a woman in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle also resulted in the seizure of a stolen cheque and a bag containing suspected cocaine.

A 31-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman from Southwold are both charged with possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.

The man is additionally charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, forging a document, driving without a valid licence and driving without insurance.

The woman has since been released from custody with conditions and a future court date, while the man remained in custody pending a bail hearing.
