There’s a new business in town, just in time for the holidays.
The “Popcorn Barn” specializes in locally-grown microwave on-the-cob popcorn.
Debot Farms Limited co-owner Chad Debot says the idea came naturally.
“Last winter, we were sitting around looking for something different to do, so we came up with this project. We knew we could grow grain corn, so we thought we’d try a little bit of popcorn to see if we could grow it, and here we are today, growing a good product during the growing season and it’s dried, packaged, and ready to go,” explains Debot.
Debot says the popcorn is sold all over Wallaceburg, including Tropical Tan and Palm Tree Boutique, Movie Time, and Duchene Paint and Accent Alley.
“You can pop it right on the cob. It’s one hundred percent whole grain corn, non GMO, gluten-free. We’re packaging it as two cobs in a pack, two popping bags included, and instructions are on the backside of the label card,” says Debot.
Debot says the packs retail for $4.99.
In the New Year, Debot is planning a popcorn fundraiser on January 18th, coinciding with National Popcorn Day. The fundraiser will be held at the CKXS studios on James Street in Wallaceburg. Proceeds will be going toward a WDSS school trip to Paris, France.
