As a Wallaceburg couple continues to navigate their young daughter’s ongoing health battle, a local heating company has provided some hope and support as the colder months approach.

As part of the annual Feel the Love program, Postma Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, and Electrical provided and installed a new furnace for the Sloan family on Friday. The program allows companies like Postma to extend a helping hand to families facing financial, medical, and personal hardships, providing them with a sense of relief and comfort.

Adrienne Sloan, her husband and three children were nominated by family and friends to be one of the five recipients to benefit from the program locally.

Celine Sloan, Adrienne’s daughter, was diagnosed with polymicrogyria in 2023 at the age of three. As a result of her condition, the right side of her brain did not develop properly, causing her to suffer half a dozen seizures per day.

Over the last year, Celine has been in and out of hospitals in Toronto and London for multiple surgeries and since March 18 she has only been home for roughly two weeks.

“We’ve basically been living in a hospital since she had surgery and it’s been a rough year, in and out. She’s basically had four brain surgeries,” said Adrienne.

Adrienne added that the furnace replacement came as a huge relief and it took the burden off of her family’s shoulders.

“I was surprised they even thought of nominating me,” she said humbly.

After hearing Celine’s story, Marketing Coordinator Carissa Gonzalez said Postma wanted to help the Sloan family in any way they could.

“With everything they’ve been through we didn’t want them to have to worry about another bill to pay,” said Gonzalez. “The fact they’ve been away from their home for so long, it was comforting for us to be able to provide them a space they could come home to that would be comfortable for them.”
