Power Outage Leaves Thousands in the Dark

As many as 11,000 Chatham-Kent residents were left in the dark Saturday night.

A power outage hit a large swath of the municipality just before 9 o’clock, while many were in the midst of recognizing Earth Hour by dimming their own lights.

Entegrus officials say the cause was linked to a Hydro One transmission station, and most customers had their power back on around 11:30 that night.

“Supply to Entegrus has been restored,” the utility announced on Twitter. “All customers affected by the Kent TS outage should now have power. Merlin remains out of power. Hydro One and Entegrus crews are continuing to patrol the lines.”

At its peak, the outage affected the majority of residents in Chatham, along with Ridgetown, Blenheim, and Erieau.

Another outage took place in Merlin around 11pm, but officials say it was a separate incident.
