Curling aficionados from all over Ontario will be flocking to Wallaceburg this weekend for one of the province’s most anticipated bonspiels.

The 38th All Ontario Farmers bonspiel runs from Friday through Sunday at the Sydenham Community Curling Club, featuring 28 teams who will enjoy plenty of entertainment, good food and fun.

“It’s a major fundraiser for the club and the part that I take out of it that really warms my heart is our whole membership, not just farmers, come out, volunteer and make the weekend the premier curling bonspiel in all of Ontario,” said Organizer Harry Courtis.

More than $19,000 will be up for grabs through the event’s prize board, with several sponsors donating products of seed, promotional items, cash, and other farm inputs. The top prize of the event is $3,000 for first place in the bonspiel.

“It’s all over Ontario. Teams come from all over, plus some locals of course. The returning champion out of Blenheim, John Young, is going to be there. They come for the $3,000 top prize… but they [also] come for the good time,” said Courtis.

The event kicks off Friday morning with a four-game guarantee and will wrap up with the finals on Sunday at 2 p.m.
