Chatham-Kent health officials are gearing up for the second round of COVID vaccinations.
Health Alliance CEO Lori Marshall says all long term care and high risk retirement home residents have been taken care of, as well as what the hospital refers to as ‘alternate level of care’ patients.
“Those patients who are in hospital and they’re ready to go to another destination, whether it’s long term care or a retirement home, and for whatever reason they just can’t make that move,” Marshall explains. “So what they’ve been able to do with the vaccine priorities is identify patients who are in hospital who are ready to move, and they were able to get their first dose of vaccine as well.”
So far, 850 doses have been administered in Chatham-Kent. The next phase will include low risk retirement homes and health care providers.
“The lower risk retirement homes would be in that next level of priority, along with more of the health care providers. We are really looking forward to the supply chain having opened up with respect to Pfizer.”
Ontario is expecting to receive 186,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine next week and another 47,000 from Moderna.
It won’t be much longer before those who were inoculated in the first round in Chatham-Kent are due for their second shot as well.
