Pride Flag Stolen From TDHS

As the community marks Pride Month, Chatham-Kent Police are investigating the theft of a rainbow flag from a local school.

According to authorities, the Pride flag was removed from the flagpole at Tilbury District High School sometime between Saturday and Monday morning.

The school has a single flag pole, on which both the Canadian Flag and Pride Flag had been flying, as per the Lambton Kent District School Board’s flag policy and almost decade-long tradition of recognizing Pride Month. According to the LKDSB flag policy, “at locations with only one flagpole the National Flag must take a position of prominence at all times when displayed with other flags: no flag shall be larger than the National Flag of Canada, no flag shall fly higher than the National Flag of Canada.”

Officials say the Chatham-Kent Police Service is taking the matter seriously and is committed to investigating the incident thoroughly.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Alexis Masse, at alexisma@chatham-kent.ca or by calling 519-436-6600. Alternatively, anyone with information can also submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477.)
