More charges have been laid in connection to a multi-year investigation by Chatham-Kent police following a drug raid at a Kingston, Ontario prison.
As part of a drug trafficking investigation that began in 2019, the Chatham-Kent Police Service executed two search warrants in the municipality on August 23, resulting in the seizure of nearly $500,000 worth of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and MDMA. Several firearms, ammunition, and a quantity of cash were also seized.
Information gathered during the investigation then led police to execute another search warrant at Collins Bay Correctional Facility in Kingston on September 18.
As a result, a 37-year-old Chatham man and a 40-year-old Kington man are both charged with five counts of conspiracy to traffick a controlled substance. The Chatham man is also charged with six counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and careless storage of a firearm.
The Kingston man is currently incarcerated, serving a 10-year sentence after pleading guilty to drug trafficking and weapon charges in 2019 in connection to a $2.6 million drug bust. At the time, the seizure was hailed as the largest in Chatham-Kent’s history.
