Thanks to the generosity of a private donor, the United Way of Chatham-Kent will be matching all donations made before the end of the year.

The United Way said all donations made between December 19-31 will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $25,000. The match was made possible through a gift commitment from an unnamed donor.

United Way of Chatham-Kent CEO Barb Palace said a boost like this towards the end of the year invigorates staff and donors alike, especially in an uncertain time.

β€œThe needs in the community are higher than ever with more people unable to afford basic necessities or needing to access social programs – many for the first time. But we also see that potential donors may be hesitant, unsure of what the year will bring. We understand that and feel for everybody making tough choices,” said Palace in a news release. “The good news is that every single dollar raised here stays here in Chatham-Kent – and now, even a few dollars will have double the impact in our community.”

All donors will receive a tax receipt for their contributed amount.

In 2023, the local United Way said its focus areas will include seniors, youth, mental health, addiction, Indigenous populations and reconciliation, poverty, and homelessness.
