Revitalization of Chatham’s downtown mall is in full swing with completion expected in less than two years.

The former Downtown Chatham Centre, now known as One Hundred King, has been undergoing a transformation over the last several months with its owners, 100 King Street CK Holdings Inc. spending tens of millions of dollars to modernize the 220,000-square-foot space.

Ron Nydam, one of the partners with 100 King and owner of project leader JP Contractors, said the parking garage on the property has been rebuilt, the exterior façade along King Street is currently underway, and upgrades to the interior are ongoing.

Nydam said marketing of the space has also started and the recent progress has prompted a great deal of interest from prospective tenants in what is being presented.

“We’re actively pursuing brands from across Chatham-Kent as well as from across Canada and the U.S.,” he said. “At this point, I can’t share with who but I hope to share that in the very near future.

“As leases get signed, as interest peaks, we will of course be undergoing tenant fit-up from corporate entities, franchises, chains, or individuals,” said Nydam.

Nydam added that the construction phase of the project is expected to be completed by late 2027.

A residential component with several apartment spaces will be part of the project’s next phase.

“Whether that makes sense to be a standalone part of the property or connected is for future consideration,” said Nydam.

100 King Street CK Holdings Inc. hosted a networking event at the mall on Wednesday, in partnership with the Downtown Chatham BIA, to provide insight into the redevelopment of the area.
