A Chatham man is facing several charges after being pulled over by Chatham-Kent Police.
Shortly before 1:30 this morning, an officer on patrol was alerted by the automatic license plate reader and conducted a traffic stop on Lacroix Street.
However, once the vehicle pulled over on Emma Street, the man behind the wheel tried to run. Following a short foot chase, the accused was taken into custody.
Officers searched the suspect and found suspected fentanyl, and further investigation showed he was already prohibited from driving because of previous driving convictions.
The 35-year-old is now charged with driving under suspension, possession of a controlled substance, and six counts of operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
