Hundreds of charges have been laid following a major commercial vehicle safety blitz across the region.
The Project Safe Haul campaign ran October 13 through November 1. During that time, officers with the West Region OPP and inspectors from the Ministry of Transportation stopped 325 vehicles, identified unsafe commercial vehicles, addressed regulatory non-compliance, and ensured that drivers, carriers, and equipment were meeting established safety standards.
In all, 119 unsafe commercial vehicles were pulled off the road, and 266 charges laid.
“Project Safe Haul reinforces the importance of compliance and proactive vehicle maintenance,” Staff Sergeant Tara Bolstad, West Region OPP Traffic Safety and Marine said in a news release. “While enforcement remains an important tool, we also recognize and appreciate the many drivers and carriers who consistently operate safely and professionally. Their commitment contributes significantly to safer roads across Ontario.”
Authorities are reminding all drivers that road safety remains a shared responsibility.
