A local farmer is expressing frustration with the ongoing CN Rail strike.
Propane is in short supply because of the strike, causing a huge issue for the ag-sector.
OFA Director and Chatham-Kent pork, beef, and chicken producer Louis Roesch says it’s more than just homeowners who can’t fire up their propane-powered barbecue, it’s farmers who need to dry their corn.
“We’re blessed in this area to start with, but when you get a bit further north all this corn that’s not harvested yet, those guys are all shut down,” Roesch says. “A lot of them already had their wet tanks filled with corn and you’ve got to get that through the dryer within a day or two or you’ve got a major problem.”
Roesch says a lack of propane-powered heat for animal barns can turn deadly.
